Well well well....

Today is nearly over.

And what have I come to realise?

Well in a sentence....That Primark does SHIT bags. And they rip when you are trying to carry them to the bus stop.

A few old ladies laughed at me. But for the most part, nobody said anything. Nobody could be concerned for long enough to tell me my bag was broken and everything was hanging out. (Yes I should have noticed, but I'm naive, and blind as a bat)

And thats my thought of the day. People are mean. More to come tomorrow.

Time for an epiphany?

It's times like this, that I really re-evaluate my life.. It's whenever there is a big change thats going on in my life, I sit and think I want to be a better person, I want to do something amazing.

Now, this might be coming out of nowhere, I may be half asleep, I may be drunk off that pint I had yesterday, I might be scared of all that's about to change or I might just be in one of those moods, cos I'm listening to sad songs (Personally, I think it's the latter)

The last time I had an epiphany I was on a train from Leeds to Blackburn. It was a Sunday afternoon, we were going past countless fields, countless sheep and I was listening to a bit of Imogen Heap on my mp3. Oh, and I was extremely hungover.

I have always had a list, call me crazy and morbid for waiting for fate, but it's a list of things I want to do before I die. (Just to clarify, it's not an ACTUAL list, it's a mental list - much easier to remove things off a mental list, no messing about with tippex or rubbers!) If you have ever seen the Disney cartoon, Alice in Wonderland, you will know the bit at the beginning where she is lying down in a field of flowers, right before she loses that damn dog. Well one of my things, is to lie in a field of sunflowers.

I don't actually know why, I have a feeling when I actually get round to it, I will get on my back, lie there and think 'Erm... What am I supposed to do now?' But it's still a wish nevertheless.

Anyway back to these epiphanys. This morning, I have been told off my friend that her brother was seriously injured in an assault and after a number of scans he is now found to have some form of tumour which he needs to have an operation to remove. I guess, I have become more aware of how things can change in a split second. The life you once knew may change in an instant. So, really, you need to embrace every moment you have, because you never know when people/things/animals/friends/places won't be around or will have changed.

Now in no way am I suggesting that we all start sniffing blades of grass or hugging trees to 'embrace' the moment, but to try and not take things for granted. To tell your loved ones you love them. The places you visit with such amazing memories, take pictures to remember how happy you were when around them. Cuddle your animals (Cautionary note: Not to death please!)Say thanks to your friends for nice things they do for you. Keep in touch with old friends you don't want to lose and enjoy what you have in that very second.

Right well that sad song has finished now and I'm listening to something a bit more upbeat, I think that means my epiphany is over. Hope it helped and if not at least you have had a good little giggle at my wierd thoughts. Ha.

A slow day....

Well,

I am supposed to be packing for uni but to be quite honest, I really really cant be bothered.

Currently, my clothes are strewn all over the floor. In fact, the pile is nearly as big as me. My cats and dog have even resorted to making their own little nests in them...

Both my cats are black as are most of my clothes so I am going to have to be extra careful I dont pack a cat.. God forbid I get to Bournemouth and want to wear my ultra glam black dress, end up pulling out a malnutritioned cat. Ha.

Still listening to Auburn, Im so in love with her (musically of course, not like romantically!)

I have also come to the realisation that I am going to be pretty poor at uni. Need some form of job ASAP. For some reason I didnt figure out that from my student loan, I would need to pay accommodation fees. Dumb blonde eh.

I am actually just about to get out of my joggers (at 18:42, I know I am quite lazy)I am about to go for a meal with my friend to say Goodbye to the North West.

What are we eating I hear you ask? CURRY of course! What else, we are in the North!

Once I get home I think I am gonna have to pack. Hmm.. maybe if my mother hid sweets in my clothes, it would motivate me a little more. I think I may put the suggestion forward, whaddya think?

My new musical find...

Auburn.

No, not the colour... The artist!

Auburn Williams.

Relatively unknown at present, she was born in 1990 in Minneapolis. She released an album independantly in 2007 called ‘Same Girl’, but failed to reach fame and fortune with it. She decided to try her hand at garnering interest online and so she signed up to social networking sites, as a lot of recent singers have, to get her name out there.

She is very much an R n B singer, very urban, very now! Thankfully, she has now been signed to Warner Bros and Beluga Heights (Now you know why Jason Derulo randomly said it in Whatcha Say!) and is Jason Derulos opening act for his Autumn 2010 tour. As you can see, with the likes of Warner Bros, Beluga Heights and Jason Derulo behind her she is definitely on the right road to becoming a superstar.
So how did I come across her I hear you ask?

Well, I kind of stumbled across her on You Tube. She popped up as a ‘suggestion’, so I thought ‘Why not?’ The background for her song was pink , bright, seemed funky and there was a pic of her sitting down with some glam leopard skin boots on! (OK, I admit I just wanted to have a little perv on her boots!) Since then, I cannot get enough!

She’s amazing! To be honest, she hasn’t got the most powerful voice, but her songs are just too catchy! The first I heard was ‘La La La’ which features Iyaz ( Come on.... Shawtyyyy’s like a melody in my head.... Remember?)

It was released in Mid 2010 in America and peaked at number 51 in the Billboard charts. It also samples the uber catchy tune from ATC – All around the world. I can’t believe it only peaked at 51. Honestly, its so good.

Since I first heard it, I have had it on repeat throught the day, dancing around my house and creating my own dance moves with my hairbrush in tow! Obviously, if you have heard All around the world you will know how upbeat this song is.
I then heard ‘Best Friend’ followed by ‘Perfect Two’, ‘Just Text’, ‘Superman’, ‘No Good’ and fell in love with her tunes! I tried to find them on iTunes but it looks like she’s not available for us poor souls in the U.K just yet.

The thing I like about her is, as I have said, she is very now, very hip, very edgy. If you are looking for something that’s completely new, a new genre of music, then there is no point listening to Auburn. She is typical of the current R n B artists we have at the moment, but then again I am not looking to find a new direction in music. I am a sucker for a melody and with that in mind, she kills it. The beats she has and comes up with are just spot on! In some songs, you just want to move and groove, in some you think about relationships and the one you love, in some you hear her rapping and giving it her all.

Lets just put it this way, I have never been to a music gig, but if Auburn comes to the U.K – move it girlies, I am FIRST in line!!

Tearjerkers and what they mean to me :)

Hey Guys,

This week has been spent more or less sniffling and crying in bed. No, I'm not ill! I have been watching tearjerkers! As in, movies that make me cry. Its a little routine I have got myself into, chocolate chip cookies at the ready along with my Malteseres Hot Chocolate, curled up under the duvet and away we go!

So this gave me a great idea for this weeks review.  Although, sales of DVD's are going down (Last year alone, the sale of DVD players was down from £720 million to only £610 million) whilst downloads go up, some of us do still like to buy the odd DVD for a night in and especially with most shops offering them at lower prices, I certainly have found it works out cheaper than renting one.

So, for any guys that are planning a romantic evening in and need that film to make your girls go weepy and seek a shoulder to cry on (I know your game fellas!) or even if you girls just want to spend a little bit of time alone wishing he loved you as much as Jack did in Titanic or wishing he would die for you such as Maximus in Gladiator then this is for you! Now, I actually cry very easily (Yes, I did cry at Gone in 60 Seconds, because the detective let Memphis Raines go... Awww thats so nice!) but my favourite tear jerkers have to include:

  • Gladiator
  • Titanic
  • The Notebook
  • Atonement
  • My Girl
  • Gone With The Wind
  • Ghost

Why do I choose these, I hear you ask? Well, they are all about love. Love for one another, love for another person that is so great you would die for them. It is rare to come across this kind of love in everyday life. I live in Blackburn, let me tell you it isn't every day I see an old man jumping in front of a bus to save his lady friend. However, these types of films give me the reassurance that there is people out there who would do that.  These films give me the reasssurance that the world isn't full of suffering and misery as our beloved newspapers and red-tops make out and these films give me the reassurance that every person has the ability to find 'The One'. And if it doesn't? Well, it offers a little escapism if nothing else. A chance to see the world from someone elses viewpoint and dive into these characters lives and come away after a few hours of watching the film knowing it has drawn some emotion from you and you have a heart, after all!

Swedish House Mafia ft Tinie Tempah

Swedish House Mafia ft Tinie Tempah
Swedish House Mafia is made up of 3 members: DJ’s and producers Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso. In 2009, these guys were ranked in DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJ list at numbers #14, #20 and #25 respectively. Eric Prydz used to be part of the Swedish House Mafia, of ‘Call On Me’ fame, however he moved to London and so is no longer an active member.

You may remember their first song ‘One (Your Name)’ featuring Pharrell of N.E.R.D. This reached number 7 in the U.K charts and I loved that song so I was really hoping this would deliver. Along with the vocals of Tinie Tempah, famous for his killer songs ‘Pass Out’ which reached number 1 and ‘Frisky’ which reached number 2 in the UK chart the SHM’s next song called ‘Miami 2 Ibiza’ was set to be a success.

It, without a doubt, is most definitely a holiday tune. Its one for summer, one to get you dancing and with Tinie Tempahs unique almost monotonous rapping style coupled with the beats and hooks that made ‘One’ so catchy it is set to be another hit.

The build ups to the musical chorus which, if you imagine being in a club is the part you know everyone will be on the dance floor moving and grooving, jumping up and down, screaming to, make it even more enjoyable and exciting to listen to. It, literally, got me dancing in my seat.

The lyrics throughout the song, leave a little to be desired, unlike the poetic styles of Taylor Swift a few weeks ago, instead we have:

‘I wake up in the morning with a mild case of amnesia
With a girl that like a girl like Lindsay Lohan, Queen Latifah’

But then again, the style of music is very Ibiza-orientated, its very much based on the lifestyle of partying, clubbing and sunning it up, lyrics revolving around fast cars, jewellery, designer clothes. However, saying this, we do know what to expect from Tinie Tempahs vocals and this is nothing short of what we would expect. I would never expect him to start singing about romance and love a la Taylor Swift or Jason Mraz. Tinie Tempah is in your face, he tells it how he sees it and if you don’t like it - Tough!

Well, Tinie Tempah and Swedish House Mafia, I must give you a round of applause. You have done it again and you have created a foot-stomping masterpiece!

Alls I need now is 2 tickets to Ibiza!!!

Taylor Swift - Mine

20 year old Taylor Swift was ranked 12th most powerful celebrity in 2010 by Forbes magazine after raking in over $45 million. She was also named as the top-selling digital artist in music history with over 24.3 million digital tracks sold by Nielsen SoundScan in January 2010. Not bad for a 20 year old from Pennysylvania eh? Well since the whole ‘incident’ with Kanye at the VMA’s, ( Who could forget that? Barrack Obama who? Taylor and Kanye were the most talked about for months after, some people still haven’t forgiven Kanye for stealing the limelight from Miss Swift, the worlds sweetheart.) and her public breakup from Joe Jonas she is bouncing back with her next single, ‘Mine’ and I’ve been listening to it to give you guys my views.

Well, let me tell you, if you don’t like country music then this is not going to be for you. From ‘Love Story’ which I absolutely loved this is more down the country route. However, I must say its a grower. When I first heard it, I wasn’t that keen - To be honest, I’m not a fan of country and because Taylor has adopted a more authentic country vibe with her subsequent singles, I was a little thrown. I was expecting a more Miley Cyrus type song but what I got was a more young, sweet version of Shania. Come on, who didn’t like ‘That don’t impress me much?!?!’ I was even more surprised to learn that Taylor wrote the song by herself, in fact, she composed the lyrics for the whole album by herself, showing us she’s playing hard-ball (so to speak!)

Lyrics such as ‘You made a rebel of a careless man’s careful daughter, you are the best thing that’s ever been mine’ prove Taylor has a way with words, she’s telling a story, a similar story to the one in Love Story, one that we are enthralled by and love to watch. This is another up-tempo tune but not moving away from her own signature style, one that will have us singing into our hairbrushes, on a Saturday night in our pyjama’s, with our ice-cream (straight out of the tub of course) and good old face masks with the ever-so-important cucumbers over the eyes! This is the type song I imagine would be attached to a movie, like boy meets girl, boy likes girl, something awful happens, boy and girl reconcile. Its the song thats going to come on just as you think ‘No! They aren’t gonna get back together…. But there he is, there she is. Oh they’ve seen each other. They’re kissing. Aaawwwwh.’ I must admit, I’m a sucker when it comes to weepy movies and trust me this is the kind of song that tells you everything is going to be O.K.

Trust me Taylor Swift, with this beauty, everything IS going to be O.K
